Wish list......
The books I didn't buy today are on my wish list to slowly collect. Let's see how long it takes to get them from the bookshop to my bookshelf. The Sneaker Colouring Book looks like so much fun, it has pages and pages of different style kicks to colour and play with. If you like colouring in (and the pleasure of staying within the lines!), the idea of a book that you can really be a part of and of course, great kicks, then this book really is any sneaker freak's dream.
If anyone has one (or all) of these books, please let me know what you think......
Greetings! (cards.....)
I have my dad visiting from PNG at the moment and one of our favourite things is to go wandering through bookstores together. Today he bought himself a few books and I saw far too many so have put them on my wish list, to buy slowly because if I'd bought them all today I would have spent about $400 - eek! The things I did buy where 3 super cool cards by Able And Game to give to people and perhaps provide me with some inspiration. As soon as I saw them, I fell in love so had to grab them. I'm not sure who they'll go to yet but I'll save them for just the right moment (or perhaps just keep them). We'll see.

Magazine & Book day.....
Just a quicky on some new books and magazines I've picked up lately. Firstly, I went to my favourite underground, second hand bookstore in all of Canberra and picked up a few little treasure for next to nothing. The name of the store is Beyond Q Bookstore and it is where the old St Vinnies in Curtin once was and opposite one of my favourite Indian restaurants. There are shelves upon shelves of books, many first editions, millions of Penguin classics, old records, a children's section, South Pacific Island section. The also sell bilums from Papua New Guinea and have some great jewelery too. Oh, the list is endless! Anyway, I picked up an old copy of The Phantom of The Opera, Gilead (which my friend sandy recommended - thanks Sandy!), Moby Dick and a super cute book for children called 'The Perfect Gift'. It's a super duper lovely story with great illustrations and was written by a couple called Gillie & Marc Schattner. On the back cover it says "Husband and wife Marc and Gillie Schattner are artists, writers, lovers of life and true believers that everyone can find the perfect gift." Cool yeah?! Anyway, it's great, I think you'll enjoy it as much as the kiddlie winks. Ok, next I went to look fro a new magazine and found that Frankie Magazine have a little cook book of Sweet Treats out at the moment. it has the most scrumptious treats in it. My picks for the yummiest are the Candy Hearts and the Musk Sticks because they remind me of being a kid. This edition of Frankie is definitely worth it and it has some space at the back to pop your own treat recipes in. Yummo! Hmmm, maybe that wasn't such a quick post - sorry!
Heartcore Pins
When I have my little stall at The Old Bus Depot markets in Kingston, Canberra, I also sell pins and mirrors made my a dear friend of mine, Aimee. Aimee has been living in Barcelona for some years now and has called Melbourne home, although she is originally a Canberra girl - just like me! Aimee's business is called Heartcore Pins and she makes the most amazingly beautiful pins and compact mirrors. Aimee sources her fabrics from around the world and the range is HUGE! There is something to suit anyone's taste - cutesy, retro, florals, Japanese fabric prints, animals, day of the dead and so, so many more. If you happen to be in Canberra on a Sunday, come past the markets and have a look for yourself. If you mention this post, there may even be a little surprise in it for you.
New things.....
Ok, as I'm waiting for the rest of the Lorna&Jack website to be finished (by my lovely brother who's super busy working to save so he can finally come home after 6 years in London) I decided to start this blog. I'm quite new to it so please excuse any silly mistakes or strange posts I might make to begin with. Also, the layout and inclusion of photos may leave a lot to be desired at first.....I'll get there in the end!
My aim is to talk about all the fun, interesting, crafty, creative, crazy, silly, amazing things that amuse, inspire and motivate me to work on my t-shirts. These may include anything from music to magazines, movies to websites, books to cuts of fabric, blogs to trees, plants and animals, people to places and more often than not, the amazing people in my life - friends and family.
At the moment I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I was hunting for a book at a book sale and an old lady struck up a conversation with me about Oscar Wilde and how great this particular book was - so I bought it. So far, I love it!

Old Bus Depot Markets
Last week I had my Lorna&Jack stall set up at the OBDM for a theme day they have called 'Creative Fibre'. It is one of the busiest days at the markets and the turnout was great. I managed to sell a whole bunch of t-shirts and lots of new Heartcore Pins that had recently arrived from Aimee in Barcelona. Unfortunately I was so very busy that I didn't have the chance to check out many of the other stallholders (other than the warm apple cider man and the Laos food stall!) so that was a little disappointing.
A few weeks ago however, I did take the Sunday off to give myself a chance to explore and it was so nice to be a customer for once. I made a few purchases - incense from my favourite incense lady, a corduroy handbag with owls on it, fresh flowers and some art work from one of my favourite stallholders, Michael. Michael is amazing and so charismatic as well as being a super great artist with a unique vision in his work. Many of his paintings/prints are quite funny but have a lovely message which Michael is always more than happy to explain to you while you're deciding what to buy. If you happen to swing by on a Sunday, go and visit him for a chat, he's super duper friendly and lots of fun. I've attached the paintings I bought from him on my lovely day off.
